The Mr Charles guest house had a map to a nearby water falls that was about a one and a half hours hike. I asked if it was OK for one person and they said 'no problem -– if you get lost just ask someone working in the fields'.
It was a very pretty and relaxing hike crossing two large rice fields separated by a wooded ridge. Sure enough after crossing the wooded ridge I had no clue where I was on...
...the hand drawn map. But just standing looking lost was enough for some working in the fields to point you in the right direction. If I was following the correct trail they would nod their head and say 'Nam Tok', Shan for water falls.
With my western trained mind, I am wondering why these people are so friendly. They do not benefit form helping the foreigners. But maybe it is just their nature.
